Come Sit Beside Me for Tea

Come sit beside me for tea. There is nothing you need to accomplish today, no certification waiting at the end of a checklist, and no expectation that you become someone other than who you already are. This is simply an invitation to pause, breathe, and consider that there may be possibilities worth exploring.
Over the years, I have discovered that people rarely arrive at yoga teacher training because they want to memorize anatomy terms or learn Sanskrit pronunciation. Those things matter and certainly have their place, but they are seldom the reason someone first walks through the door. More often, people arrive because something in life is shifting. Children are growing older, careers are changing, relationships are evolving, retirement is approaching, or one season is ending as another begins.

Sometimes the change is joyful, and sometimes it arrives unexpectedly. At other times, it appears as restlessness, curiosity, or the quiet feeling that there may be more to life than repeating the same familiar routines. Yoga teacher training has a curious way of meeting people during these moments. It does not provide every answer, but it can teach us how to ask better questions.
Can you sit quietly with yourself without rushing to change what you find? Can you remain steady when the path ahead is uncertain? Can you listen deeply, respond thoughtfully, and remain open to learning even after years of experience? These questions are not confined to the yoga mat. They follow us into our homes, workplaces, relationships, difficult conversations, celebrations, losses, and the ordinary moments that quietly become our lives.

This is why I often tell students that yoga can be practiced anywhere. It can be practiced while folding laundry, caring for an aging parent, walking a dog beneath a summer sky, drinking tea at the kitchen table, sitting in traffic, or waiting for an answer that has not yet arrived. The postures are one beautiful doorway into yoga, but they are only a doorway. What happens after we step through is where the deeper journey begins.
In our mentorship labs, we explore philosophy, teaching, anatomy, communication, ethics, and the practical responsibilities of guiding others. Beneath those conversations, we are also learning how to pay attention. We learn to notice ourselves, one another, the stories we carry, the habits we wish to cultivate, and the lives we hope to create. This kind of learning cannot be reduced to information alone.

Information can be downloaded, studied, and stored, but mentorship develops through conversation, trust, shared experiences, questions, reflection, and practice. A mentor cannot walk your path for you, but a mentor can walk beside you for a while. That is how I have always viewed this work. I am not here simply to stand at the front of a room and deliver answers. I am here to sit beside each student and ask what they are noticing, what feels true, what possibilities are emerging, and where they would like to go from here.
The most meaningful transformations I have witnessed have rarely been dramatic. A student begins speaking with greater confidence. Someone discovers they are capable of leading a room. A person who spent years doubting themselves begins trusting their own voice, or a teacher realizes they no longer need to imitate anyone else. These changes often happen so quietly that they become visible only in hindsight.

Eventually, the student who arrived searching for direction realizes they have become someone capable of offering guidance to others. That transformation does not happen because they perfected every posture or memorized every teaching. It happens because they learned how to remain present, listen carefully, trust themselves, and continue growing.
A Flexible Way to Begin
Not every student is ready to begin by paying the complete tuition at once, but that does not mean the possibility of teacher training needs to be placed aside. Edge Yoga School now offers two tuition structures for the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Students may enroll through the traditional tuition option or progress through the curriculum one 40-hour module at a time.
The curriculum remains a complete 200-hour program. The modular option simply allows a student to begin with one area of study and continue through the remaining modules as time and finances permit.
MODULES
The 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training curriculum consists of five required 40-hour modules:
Yoga Anatomy: 40 hours, $500
Webinars: 40 hours, $500
Yoga Style Specialty Course: 40 hours, $500
Labs: 40 hours, $500
Capstone: 40 hours, $500
Module Tuition: $2,500
Traditional Tuition: $1,899

YOGA STYLE SPECIALTY COURSE
Each student will select one 40-hour Yoga Style Specialty Course as part of the 200-hour curriculum. These courses are in line with the Edge Yoga School syllabus and allow each student to explore a style of yoga that reflects their interests, teaching goals, or personal practice.
Students may select from the following Yoga Style Specialty Courses:
Hatha Yoga
Yoga Anatomy
Hot Yoga
Group Fitness Instructor
coreXyoga™
Prenatal Yoga
Barre Yoga

After graduation, students may return to complete additional Yoga Style Specialty Courses to satisfy continuing education requirements, expand their teaching knowledge, or explore new directions within their practice.

Becoming More Fully Yourself
Perhaps yoga teacher training is not about becoming an expert, collecting credentials, or arriving at a final destination. Perhaps it is about developing a lifelong relationship with learning, curiosity, practice, and the unfolding nature of life.
If you find yourself standing at the edge of a new season and wondering what might come next, yoga teacher training may not be a path toward becoming someone different. It may be an invitation to become more fully yourself, with the freedom to begin through the traditional program or one thoughtful module at a time.
The tea is warm, the conversation is waiting, and the possibilities remain wonderfully open.
