Yoga Alliance acronyms explained for you!

Some folks have been asking about Yoga Alliance acronyms. Here are some basics to look for...

E-RYT 500 is an Experienced, Registered Yoga Teacher of training 500 hours. This requires 4 years since graduation to earn, plus 2000 teaching hours. It is the benchmark for leading a 300-hour yoga teacher training. You must take a 300-hour YTT and have the RYT 200 in order to earn this distinction. Our very own Cassandra Elms will be eligible for this in March of this year!!

E-RYT 200 is an Experienced, Registered Yoga Teacher of training 200 hours. This requires 2 years to pass since graduation, plus 1000 teaching hours. It is the benchmark for leading a 200-hour yoga teacher training.

RCYT is a Registered, Children's Yoga Teacher of 95 training hours. This requires the E-RYT 200 distinction, along with teaching 30 classes.

RPYT is a Registered, Prenatal Yoga Teacher of 95 training hours. This requires the E-RYT 200 distinction, along with teaching 30 classes.

YACEP is a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider. This requires the E-RYT 200 distinction.

RYT 200 is a Registered Yoga Teacher of 200 training hours, but does not distinguish experience or teaching hours.

RYT 500 is a Registered Yoga Teacher of 500 training hours, and DOES distinguish experience when the E-RYT 200 distinction is also held.

RYS is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance. Edge Yoga School & Arts has five-star reviews and continue to offer flexible schedules and online training.

What is better? RYT 500 or E-RYT 200? Hands down, E-RYT 200 is better than RYT 500 alone because that E stands for Experienced, and only time and teaching experience will award you that.

Yoga Alliance has pressed PAUSE on the New Standards, so it is not too late for you to earn your 300-hour yoga teacher training to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 500. If you currently offer a 200-hour yoga teacher training, and have not yet taken the 300-hour YTT, now is the time. You can do it online and it is more affordable than ever.

Take this time to refine your craft!
