Where to practice yoga beyond the yoga studio

Learning Beyond the Studio: Why Edge Yoga School Includes Field Trips

When most people imagine yoga teacher training, they picture a studio.

A yoga mat.

A classroom.

A whiteboard.

A carefully planned sequence.

Those experiences are certainly part of the journey. At Edge Yoga School, we value structured education, clear learning objectives, and a comprehensive curriculum built from nearly two decades of teaching experience.

But yoga was never meant to live only inside four walls.

One of the greatest privileges of mentorship is helping future yoga teachers recognize that every environment has the potential to become a classroom.

A quiet walk through Herrick Lake can become a lesson in meditation.

A conversation at the Salt Cave can become a discussion about the nervous system and restorative practices.

A visit to the Theosophical Society can inspire reflection on sangha, community, and lifelong learning.

Even an unexpected rainstorm that floods local trails can become an opportunity to gather for a spontaneous Yoga Refuge practice and explore how yoga helps us adapt when life changes our plans.

These experiences are what I call Field Trips.

Field Trips are not vacations. They are not entertainment. They are not random outings added to fill a calendar.

They are intentional learning experiences that help yoga teachers recognize yoga beyond the studio.

During our mentorship together, you'll receive a structured syllabus, individualized guidance, and opportunities to discover your own teaching voice. My goal has never been to create teachers who all teach exactly like me. Instead, I want to help you become the teacher you were meant to be.

Some graduates dream of teaching in yoga studios.

Others work with children.

Some specialize in prenatal yoga.

Others discover a passion for restorative practices, corporate wellness, outdoor yoga, retreats, or continuing education.

Your path should reflect your interests, your strengths, and your community.

Field Trips help bridge the gap between learning about yoga and recognizing where yoga naturally belongs in everyday life.

This philosophy also extends into our Advanced 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education programs. As teachers continue developing professionally, many discover that workshops, retreats, educational outings, and community-based learning become meaningful ways to serve students beyond weekly classes.

Teaching yoga is not simply about demonstrating postures.

It is about learning to see opportunities for practice everywhere.

A beautiful landscape can become a meditation lesson.

A park bench can become a discussion about mindfulness.

A quiet moment before class can become a lesson in presence.

These are the experiences that cannot always be captured in a textbook.

They are discovered through observation, curiosity, mentorship, and practice.

At Edge Yoga School, our curriculum provides the foundation.

Our mentorship helps you find your voice.

Our studio offers a place to practice.

Our Field Trips remind us that yoga has always been larger than the classroom.

Perhaps the most important lesson of all is this:

The world has been your yoga studio all along.
