Yoga Mentor — Learning Objectives
1. Mentorship Presence & Communication
Demonstrate the ability to hold supportive space for students through clear communication, active listening, and thoughtful guidance.
Provide constructive verbal and written feedback that is specific, respectful, and growth-oriented.
Adapt communication styles to meet the needs of individual learners while upholding professional boundaries.

2. Student Development & Progress Tracking
Guide students in setting realistic goals for their teaching practice and document progress throughout the mentorship period.
Identify strengths, opportunities for refinement, and areas requiring further study or practice.
Support students in developing confidence and independence as emerging yoga teachers.

3. Teaching Observation & Feedback Skills
Observe student teaching sessions with attention to safety, alignment, pacing, cueing, and class plan design.
Provide feedback that reflects an understanding of anatomy, class progression, and risk-benefit considerations.
Offer options and suggestions that help students refine their personal teaching style.

4. Anatomy-Informed Guidance
Recognize key anatomical patterns relevant to asana, breathwork, and movement quality.
Provide students with accurate, accessible explanations that help them understand how anatomy influences teaching decisions.
Encourage students to apply anatomical knowledge when observing their own practice and teaching others.

5. Ethics, Boundaries, & Professional Conduct
Model professional behavior consistently and communicate expectations clearly.
Uphold ethical standards within the mentor–student relationship, including confidentiality, consent, and appropriate scope of practice.
Maintain clear boundaries that support a healthy, growth-oriented learning environment.

6. Trauma-Sensitive Mentorship
Use language that promotes safety, respect, and agency for all students.
Recognize signs that a student may need additional support and respond appropriately within scope.
Encourage teaching approaches that are inclusive, accessible, and mindful of individual needs.

7. Reflection & Self-Inquiry Practices
Guide students in self-reflection to deepen their understanding of their teaching identity.
Use structured prompts to help students identify patterns, habits, and areas for continued growth.
Encourage reflective practices that support long-term professional development.

8. Professional Readiness & Career Support
Assist students in preparing for the next phase of their teaching journey, including class planning, networking, and studio readiness.
Provide guidance on how to navigate common challenges new teachers face, such as imposter syndrome, mixture of class levels, or sustaining teaching energy.
Help students create an individualized plan for entering the professional yoga community confidently and safely.
